What would you say is the greatest talent or skill? How have you developed and demonstrates that talent over? One of my greatest talent or skill is the ability of teaching others. I have gained the skill of teaching others. I have gained the skill of teaching others by learning how to master a topic or sport. Sometimes it is not easy and I struggle throughout the process, but I push myself to do it over and over until I get it right. As I fight through my struggles I am able to understand where people have trouble within a topic or sport; allowing me to help them to be successful. I have to demonstrated my skill of teaching multiple times. As growing up I taught my younger siblings how to do their hair. Within the class room math has always been my strongest subject. For me to receive a level four I had to demonstrate I understand the measurement topic and able to teach someone. So I used my knowledge and skill of teaching to my advantage; I taught those who were behind or had trouble within the class to demonstrate that I am able to teach the measurement topic. Another place I have demonstrated the skill of teaching is giving back to my community and coached basketball for the NJB and coached cheerleading for three years for the LYF program.
Describe the most significant challenge you have faced and the steps you have taken to overcome this challenge. How has this challenge affected your academic achievement? The most significant challenge I have faced is dealing with my parent’s separation. This happened the middle of last summer. I had always seen it coming but I never knew how it was going to affect my family and myself. When it first happened my dad’s job got moved to Hanford and my dad told my mother “we are more than welcome to move with him”, but my mother was against the idea of moving. I felt sad that my dad was leaving to Hanford and he was going to live all by himself. So I made a decision to move with my dad. My mother was upset with my decision and did not want me to go. We got into many arguments until my mother realized I am old enough to make my own decision and all she could do is be there for me. I started my senior year at Sierra Pacific High School, I thought my experience there was going to be totally different. But once I got there it was a reality check. Seven classes a day was challenging, the teachers there did not seem to care for the students like Lindsay did, and the students there were rude and very snobby. My dad worked all the time and there were times I did not have rides to school and back from school. I wanted to play sports but my dad did not want to support me with my decision by providing the equipment I needed to be successful. It was all so over whelming and I had no one. I missed home and my siblings. Another thing my parents were not talking and when they did they just argued all the time. So I thought to myself, do I want to have a fun senior year with all my friends at Lindsay or be alone here at Hanford trying to be myself and successful? I talked to my parents and I felt deep down in my heart it was right for me to move back to Lindsay with my mother. The thing that affected me was being a 2 weeks behind Lindsay High Schools pace, but I stay after school and asked for help from my teachers when I did not understand a certain topic and I was able to get back on pace. Describe your favorite academic subject and explain how it has influenced you. My favorite academic subject in high school is math. This subject interest me because it feels like I am solving a puzzle. Another thing it allows me to find an answer and I knew there is always an answer at the end of a problem. I enjoy learning all the new topics in math because when I solve a harder problem I feel smarter and stronger. By taking this subject I know it will benefit me in the long run when I get to college because of the math courses I will need to take. This allows me to be prepared for those type of classes. What have you done to make your school or community a better place? Since freshmen year I have been giving back to the community. I have coached cheer leading for the Lindsay Youth Football program. I have been doing this for about four years now. I enjoy coaching because I remember being the same age as the girls I coach and wanting to be the best cheerleader I can be. Every year there is a big cheer competition which is my favorite part of coaching. It shows everyone what each squad had to offer but in my eyes as a coach it shows me how much improvement my girls have made from day one. Knowing I have made an impact of their cheer dream allows me to know I have done my job. As for school I help make LHS a better place by using my teaching skills and tutor others who need help with math. Many of my peers in class who are behind come to me for help them understand a topic they are having difficulty with.
